Nerine bowdenii

Nerine bowdenii
Lovely graceful flower heads in umbels on slender but stiff stems. They are decorative in the garden but their great value is as a cut flower. The ideal situation is against a wall facing South setting the bulbs with the nose just below the soil level. When plants have died down they should be covered with a thick layer of bracken or other material to give protection against severe winter weather but this should be removed in the Spring as soon as conditions allow. Nerines should not be lifted and are best left undisturbed. When clumps become congested lift after flowering and replant without delay. If required for pots, cover the bulbs half way up the neck and set in a frost free place until April. Water freely when plants are in full growth but withhold water while dormant. Flowers September to November.
