What should I be doing in the Garden this month?
Apple Blossom Amaryllis Bulbs
Amaryllis Christmas Amaryllis Apple Blossom
- Time for planting
Ideal for home cultivation to flower by Christmas Day provided a minimum of 65 degrees Fahrenheit is maintained by day and night. They are easy to grow provided the simple cultural instructions are followed
Culture Roots and lower part of bulbs should be soaked in tepid water for 24 hours and potted in a compost of good loam and leaf mould, adding sufficient coarse silver to keep the whole porous. This is important for the development of the roots. Put sufficient soil in a pot to form a cone, place the bulb on top spreading the roots well out and fill with soil leaving about half the bulb exposed. To initiate growth bottom heat is important and a place such as a mantelpiece is ideal. Move to a sunny windowsill when buds have formed. Use tepid water on top soil only.
