One of the World's most famous Lilies, L. regale was discovered in 1903 by Ernest 'Chinese' Wilson, who later said he 'would proudly rest his reputation with the Regal Lily'. Once hidden in the Min Valley in Western China regale is now one of the most adaptable Lilies, being grown in the garden, pots, outside or to scent a conservatory. There may be up to 16 white trumpet flowers per stem as well as narrow dark leaves. They are particulary happy on chalk soil and prefer full sun and should be planted 20cm deep and 35 to 40cm apart.
