A large creamy yellow flower with soft pink edges on a short strong stem. Silver Parrot is a Parrot Tulip, a form named as such due to their fringed, feather like petals and vivid wide array of colours. The first Parrot Tulips were found in 1665 with the first of the modern era, ‘Fantasy’ being a sport of ‘Clara Butt’: A Darwin tulip. This is quite common now with most of the Parrot Tulips being a sport of Darwin Tulips, resulting in a similar flowering time of May. These immense flowers are strikingly beautiful and give a rich ornamental effect in the garden. Silver Parrot grows to 35cm.

Tulips will thrive in almost any type of soil where there is reasonable drainage. During the growing season they like plenty of moisture but the roots must not stand in water. Be careful not to feed tulips during the growing season as this will produce 'leggy' plants. Plant from October until late December 4 inches deep and approximately 5 to 6 inches apart.

Tulip failures are mostly due to damage by slugs and snails. Apply a slug repellant immediately after planting and repeat at monthly intervals until the plants stand well above the ground.
